A lexico-semantic analysis of phrasal verbs in English and their Czech equivalents/Lexiko-sémantická analýza frázových sloves v angličtině a jejich české ekvivalenty

This Bachelor thesis deals with phrasal verbs and their Czech equivalents. The theoretical part focuses on the basic word-formation processes in English and Czech language with more attention on the process of verbal affixation. Phrasal verbs are then described in detail and how the literature approaches this phenomenon. In the practical part, corpus-based research of the most frequent phrasal verbs is practised. Then the analysis of the data follows. Czech equivalents are assigned for each of the findings and it is evaluated how the results correspond with each other. In the final part of the thesis, a new approach to phrasal verbs is proposed as a new possible method of dealing with these units or even as a new teaching method.

French presentatifs and their Czech equivalents

The topic of this thesis is French presentational construction and its Czech equivalents. The theoretically concieved introduction defines presentational construction as a part of speech of contemporary French as I had previously studied in French and Czech specific sources. The following part individualizes particular presentational construction from the semantic point of view in addition to its syntax function point of view. I based my research on compilation of presentational construction excerptions which I had found in French literary texts in comparison with their Czech equivalents. I tried to translate examples of presentational constructions taken from French press. I analysed the role of French presentational construction in function sentence perspective and wheather the role was followed when translated into Czech or not.

Italian conjunctions and their Czech equivalents

This thesis deals with the Italian conjunctions. The work is divided into a theoretical and an application part. The theoretical part focuses on the definition of the conjunctions and the method of their division according to individual viewpoints. In the second part, in the application one, the sample of conjunctions is created together with the use of the corpus and the Italian dictionary. The part of this sample is then analysed in formal, semantic, and translatological terms. The formation of the list of the Italian conjunctions with the proposed Czech equivalents is part of the work. The aim of this thesis is to make the complete overview of Italian conjunctions and their Czech equivalents.

Spanish proverbs (keyword human body) and their Czech equivalents

This Graduation Thesis aims to capture the characteristics of selected proverbs and to analyze the collected material (351 proverbs). At first in the theoretical part the proverbs come to be classified by the form and the meaning and then their specific forms are characterized. In the practical part the proverbs are analyzed and an examination is performed as to their syntax and semantics compared with their Czech equivalents. The frequency of use of individual proverbs in the contemporary Spanish is described according to the corpus CREA.
